The high school and the senior high school were shut down Wednedsay due to a violent threat.

The Southlake Police were notified about this threat overnight through an anonymous report from the school’s alert system.

“The report involved a message that was written on a bathroom stall door by someone referring to the [Algebra 1] STAAR test and a potential school shooting on May 1st,” an online information release from the DPS said.

Students were instructed to stay home while teachers from both campuses were notified by administrators to report to the senior high to be debriefed.

“Administration told us what was going on with the situation, the timeline, and what to expect, and then from that point, in order to keep teachers safe, they had teachers remain on campus until further notification,” staff member Lindsey Jacobson said. “Campus administrators were working with Southlake PD and our central office to work on a plan to identify the threat and maintain safety. They’re not allowed to really divulge much information, which is why teachers weren’t really involved in the investigation.”

The investigation into the threat was concluded in the evening.

“Southlake Police have identified the students involved in writing a threat on the door of a bathroom stall at Carroll High School,” a later DPS information release said. “After a thorough investigation, officers have determined there is no credible threat to students or public safety.”

Because the students were under 18, they were not identified and additional information was not released.

“I think it was handled well and I think it’s good that they took it seriously instead of just brushing it off,” sophomore Nandita Shetty said. “Students need to take threats more seriously and not make threatening jokes because things like this can actually happen.”
