Rewatching La La Land

Due to quarantine, we had lots of free time to watch movies. I decided to rewatch the 2016 American musical romantic comedy film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, “La La Land.”

If you’re like me, you haven’t watched this movie since it was released back in 2016, so let me catch you up. The movie takes place in Los Angeles and follows a passionate pianist, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), and an aspiring actress, Mia (Emma Stone) as they fall in and out of love.

The beginning shows these characters meeting each other many different times before they actually talk. Like the previous meetings they’ve had with each other eventually leading up to becoming a serious couple, the movie includes many different foreshadowing moments to add to the plot. Sebastian dreams to own a jazz club due to his love for the type of music but is thrown into something very different which Mia isn’t too happy with. This eventually leads to a major plot twist by the end of the movie.

Overall the plot of this movie is really well written and it also won many awards for the screenplay in general. I’d give the plot and writing a 9/10.  The one point is that it can be confusing to some watchers.

On to the acting. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone do incredibly well in this movie. Not only did they both get awards for best acting for academy awards but they also won for their singing and dancing within the production. 10/10 for acting. Overall a combined score of 9.5/10 for the film. I really enjoyed rewatching this film and encourage you to as well.
