Last night, the Lady Dragon volleyball team defeated the Austin High School Maroons to win the 6A Division II championship in five sets. Coming back from a 2-1 start, this marks the first ever state championship for volleyball and the second state championship across all Carroll sports this school year. Senior middle blocker Kinsley Young recorded 22 kills, four aces and four blocks: which was enough to win the Division II MVP.
“Winning State was something that was always a dream for this team, and finally achieving it is beyond me,” Young said. “We have worked unbelievably hard to get here and proud would only be the smallest thing I could say about this team, because I’m beyond it. My younger self would be shocked to say the least. Her competitive fire would be shining brighter than ever right now. This season can’t be measured in words, but in the feelings we hold for each other, I love them beyond life. And the cherry on top of all of it – being named MVP. I couldn’t have done it without everyone on this team. Truly. I’m blessed to know them.”
