Dragon Media is Carroll’s student media organization made up of four sections. Here at The Dragon Tribune, you’ll be able to read stories from the newspaper staff and watch projects from the KDGN broadcast, as well as view work from other sections of Dragon Media including the yearbook and the Dragon sports media team. Dragon Tribune Newspaper
This is the newspaper’s second year of having a dedicated class after multiple years of dormancy. In the paper’s first year, the UIL academic journalism team made up of staff members brought home the 6A State Champion Journalism Team title and achieved multiple individual awards, including the State Champion News Writer, Pragnya Kaginele. This year, covering everything from district happenings to pop culture, the newspaper will continue striving to provide a voice for the students, by the students.
Pragnya Kaginele (Editor-in-Chief): This is Kaginele’s fourth and final year in Dragon Media and her third year as an editor. Outside of news writing, she loves classic literature, travel and walks with her dog, Baloo.
Katherine Morosova (Student Life Editor): This is Morosova’s second year in Dragon Media and first year as an editor. When she isn’t doing homework or writing articles, she loves watching shows, going on long walks with her dog, Loki, and going on Starbucks runs (Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso. Every. Time.).
Nandita Shetty (Academic Editor): This is Shetty’s third year in Dragon Media and first year as an editor. Outside of school, she does taekwondo and is a third-degree black belt. She has been interested in news writing since seventh grade and is excited to continue bringing new stories to Carroll students.
Amelia Allen (Staff Writer): Allen is new to Dragon Media. She loves animals and spends a good bit of her time with her cat and three dogs. She loves listening to music and binge-watching TV shows and movies. She can’t wait to explore journalism and press this year.
Bentley Brimhall (Staff Writer): Brimhall is new to Dragon Media and the district. She is so excited for her debut in journalism and eager for a good year. She loves all things volleyball, is a YA romance novel enthusiast and bakes in her free time.
Colton Khatib (Staff Writer): Khatib is new to journalism and is excited to try new things. This is his freshman year of high school, and he is going to try and make it the best it could be. Khatib’s hobbies include playing sports, fishing and video games.
Naomi Kolady (Staff Writer): Kolady is a sophomore and this is her first year on The Dragon Tribune. She has been writing for the “Stroll Westlake” magazine for a year. When not obsessing over her dog, you can find her reading, baking, doing photography and geeking out over sea creatures.
Riya Mathews (Staff Writer): Mathews’s favorite sports team is the Toyota Monster Energy NASCAR cup series team, and she’s a first-year writer for Dragon Media. She rows at Bachman Lake when she gets the chance and is a proud member of the varsity Dragon Band, as well as an active volunteer.
Alena Sareen (Staff Writer): Sareen is a senior and first-year staff writer, excited about all the opportunities the upcoming year holds. She enjoys reading, listening to music and painting in her free time. She also loves hanging out with her friends and playing tennis.
KDGN Broadcast
Last May, KDGN received the Bronze Star Journalism Award at the Interscholastic League Press Conference, its second-ever Star and first in eight years. In individual categories, students received first place and third place in General News Writing, third place in Anchoring and an honorable mention for Feature Story.
Dylan Spiegelman (Executive Producer): Spiegelman is a senior and the returning KDGN Executive Producer. Outside of the studio, he enjoys filmmaking, fashion design, skateboarding and boxing.
Lily Horton (Team Director): Horton is a senior at Carroll Senior High School. Horton does competitive show jumping outside of school and is looking to pursue film as a director in the future. Her interests include cars, music, animals and movies/shows.
Cailyn Cashon (Team Director): Cashon is a junior and is in her third year of yearbook and second year of KDGN. She is the sports editor for the Dragon Yearbook and enjoys photography.
Kathir Dev (Technical Director): Dev is a sophomore at Carroll High School, in his second year as an Audio/Video Production student. He has had an interest in photography since intermediate school and is interested in computers and medicine. After high school, he hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
Ellie Colvin (Staff): Colvin is a freshman in high school and a first-year member of the KDGN program. Colvin has a background in broadcasting, from her previous years in the DRGN program in middle school. When she is not in school she is hanging out with friends and family, outside or listening to music
Miriam Etheredge (Staff): Etheredge is a senior and it is her first official year as a member of Dragon Media, but has guest anchored KDGN several times over the past few years. She is the captain of the color guard and is involved in several student organizations across the school. She hopes to pursue Industrial Engineering in college.
Nick Ferrara (Staff): Ferrara is a senior and it is his first year as a member of Dragon Media, and has a passion for video production. He is the president of the Carroll chapter of National Art Honor Society and is involved in several student organizations around campus. He hopes to study film production in his future.
Maximilian Parilli (Staff): Parilli is a junior and a first year member of KDGN. He joined due to his interest in video editing and production, and has previous experience from creating his own videos. He’s been into photography since he got here and enjoys taking pictures of nature and the moon.
Jhanvi Patidar (Staff): Patidar is a freshman and a first-year member in KDGN. She loves dogs, especially doodles. She loves listening to music like rap and R&B. When she graduates high school, she plans on going into a career in sports entertainment.
Sanaa Sanders (Staff): Sanders is a junior and first year member of KDGN. She’s interested in pursuing a career in anchoring as well as acting. She likes to bake, shop and watch movies in her free time.
Hayden Wedderien (Staff): Wedderien is a sophomore at Carroll High School and a first year member of KDGN. He joined because he’s interested in movie editing. He is also a first year member of yearbook. He joined yearbook because he took the introductory class as a freshman.
