Every woman knows that feeling of not being able to find the hygiene products in the bathroom, the irritation and embarrassment at having to go find one with a friend or the nurse. Z-Club wants to change this and is running a feminine hygiene products drive, and any student who wants to help Z-Club provide feminine products in women’s bathrooms can donate them to room 316 through the rest of the year.

Sponsored by Zonta International, a global organization that aims to create awareness of gender issues and provide support to women around the world, Z-Club stands to be a part of that change. Z-Club is a school club with the goal of not only educating about but also making solutions for these issues in school. 

“As a Z Club member, being part of this organization has shown me how powerful a supportive community of girls can be,” junior and outreach officer Siri Vangala said. 

Z-Club’s role in the school is to create a safe space for women to come together and make a difference. 

“Members join to promote feminism and encourage girls to be confident and do what makes them happy,” Vangala said. “That is what feminism is all about.”

Z-Club is most known for taking on a common yet overlooked issue: access to feminine products. Female bathrooms have long since run out of feminine hygiene products, requiring students to bring their own or ask to go to the nurse to get some. Through their drive, Z-Club is aiming to solve this commonly-ignored problem. 

“We do this to create a better learning environment for girls by reducing the worry and stigma that come with periods,” senior and president Ava Aalund said. “It’s super fulfilling to organize this service for the school and bring women together.” 

Z-Club encourages everyone to be a part of change to make our community better.

“It’s been such a wonderful club to be part of, filled with the most amazing people who are so passionate about human rights and making a difference,” senior and vice president Eela Amin said. ‘It has taught me so much about the importance of community, compassion, and initiative.”
