Carroll Theatre’s fall production of the Tony Award-winning “Hadestown: Teen Edition” opens Thursday in the Carroll Senior High auditorium.
The show is billed as “an intriguing and beautiful folk opera that delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone — ‘Hadestown’ invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.”
Tickets are $16 presale at dragondrama.net and $21 at the door. All seats are general admission. There will be no reserved seating with the exception of sponsors and judges for musical theatre awards contests.
“Hadestown” has some adult situations and alcohol use. Due to attention spans and restlessness, it is not recommended for children under seven. The run time is around 2 hours and 15 minutes, including one 10-minute intermission.
