The Lady Dragons Swim and Dive team had a combined team score of 454 points at the 6A-1 regional swim meet held at the Midland HS Aquatic Center, placing them in first and sending them to state.
“I feel like the girls team at region did really good because we came in first, and we had some very good swims,” freshman Kay Deyoung said. ”Overall as a team we all worked together and cheered on each other which definitely helped everyone swim fast.”
The girls 200-medley relay team placed first at the regional meet. Senior Marin Clem, juniors Olivia Colombo and Emma Bibza, and sophomore Lauren Boswell swam 50 meters each and clocked at 1:44.27 against Keller.
“I think we have a really good set of girls,” Clem said. “I’ve been swimming with them forever and it’s been a great pleasure every time.”
Senior and diver Melina Michaelides won first place in the one-meter diving event with a score of 467.25, followed up by two other Dragon divers on the podium.
“It felt good placing first,” Michaeldes said. “Overall it was a fun meet with my teammates, and seeing my time commitment to the sport and hard work pay off is rewarding.”
The region meet helped carry the swim team to the state meet, which took place at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin from Feb. 21 to Feb. 22.
“The state meet was very good,” Deyoung said. “We had a few individual events and relays place in the top three; it was really exciting to be able to watch everyone exceed their goals.
