On March 23, the Southlake Foundation hosted its second annual Career Connections Summit at Carroll Senior High School in the SAC. The Career Connections Summit gave students from grades 7-12 opportunities to learn about potential career paths from more than 70 company professionals in various career fields such as computer science, business, medicine, engineering, law, and many more.
The event was organized and led by the Southlake Foundation’s Student Leadership Program, a sub-branch of the Southlake Foundation run completely by students which aims to make a difference in the community.
“We decided to organize this event after we noticed a lack of career sources in our school and we wanted to find a way for students to find internships and shadowing opportunities,” senior and President of Operations Dhruvi Gari said. “Throughout Southlake, we wanted to have a special focus on career connections. So that’s why we’ve partnered with the Southlake Foundation to create Career Connections Summit, where students can explore different career paths.”
The Career Connections Summit also allowed students a chance to network with professionals and apply for internships and shadowing positions. Guest speakers from diverse professional backgrounds came to educate students about prospective careers in their respective fields.
“Gen Z is the future,” Gari said. “We want to be optimistic and encourage students to try different things. There are so many career opportunities that any student can choose to go into.”
