Opinion: The Hate for the Chiefs is Unnecessary

Throughout the playoff season in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs have been hated. Many people say the Chiefs do not deserve to attend the Super Bowl.

There have been many edits on TikTok especially targeting the Chiefs and hoping the teams playing them would defeat them. These edits consist of cheering for the Chiefs at the beginning of the edit, but then they switch to glamorizing the opposing team’s quarterback and wishing that the opposing team will win over the Chiefs and “save them.” These edits consisted of teams that have never had a big fan base before.

Many of these TikToks also consist of Taylor Swift and defeating her. Ever since Taylor Swift has been seen at the Chiefs’ game, the hatred for the Chiefs has increased. It seems as if most people dislike the Chiefs because of Taylor Swift. The rumor of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift dating was confirmed and this caused a lot of dispute between the NFL fans. Although the screen time Taylor Swift received during the games lasted around 44 seconds, 0.39% of the total championship games, many NFL fans were angry that Taylor Swift was having too much screen time. Swift was barely shown and that caused a huge outrage with these fans. The NFL fans are being unreasonable with the hate especially towards Taylor Swift. They just hate that the focus was off of football for a couple seconds for a successful woman supporting her boyfriend.

These TikToks have made no difference in the Chief’s performance. People made a big deal that Lamar Jackson, the Raven’s quarterback, needed to beat the Chiefs. There were many edits of Jackson encouraging the idea that he needs to save the NFL and defeat the Chiefs. In the end, the Chiefs still won. Those edits just seemed dumb after exaggerating the effect that would occur if the Chiefs won. These edits have started again for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. The 49ers have also never been liked by many NFL fans, but all of a sudden, since they are playing against the Chiefs, many NFL fans are rooting for them.

The Chief’s statistics prove that they do deserve all their victories this season. Also, the Chiefs have already won the Super Bowl twice in the last five years. Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback, has the second-highest passing yards this season, 718 yards. Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs’ running back, has the highest rushed yards in this season, 254 yards. Furthermore, Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Chiefs, has the third-highest yards on receptions. This season, the team had around 382 total rushing yards while their opponents had around 339 yards.

Additionally, there is a lot of backlash towards Mahomes for his voice. NFL viewers continuously make fun of Patrick Mahomes voice and say that it’s very similar to Kermit the Frog’s voice. A lot of fans dislike Mahomes just because of his voice, which is very unnecessary and unreasonable. Mahomes is very aware of this feedback but he still is one of the most successful quarterbacks. Mahomes is not bothered by these comments and constantly is winning games with his team.

The Chiefs have proven more than enough that they deserve to be playing in the Super Bowl. There is a lot of hate for the Chiefs with no apparent reason. Although there is a lot of hate, the Chiefs have kept winning their games and have not been affected. The Chiefs do not care about what other fans think, they just care about their own fans and keep persevering. The Chiefs winning in spite of the hate proves that they truly are a great team.
