With the entrance of a new choir director, Mrs. Jennifer Randall, comes the beginning of a new Carroll choir tradition: a competitive show choir called The SLC.

While having a show choir isn’t entirely new to Carroll, having a show choir that competes is.

“Southlake has had a choir incorporating dance in the past, but this is the first time we will be competing on the Texas invitational circuit as a show choir,” Randall said. “It’s incredibly exciting, the energy from the students has been so cool to see.”

The SLC has been an opportunity for students with a love of singing, dancing, and showmanship to show off their talents.

“I love theater, so I do a lot of singing and dancing as it is,” senior Brooklyn Haase said, “so I figured this would be right in my wheelhouse.”

As they continue on this new adventure, SLC members look forward to what the future holds.

“It’s been a great bonding experience,” senior Grace Kidd said. “I can’t wait to learn our choreography and put the show together.”

And on this adventure SLC members are able to forge their own path.

“It’s the coolest thing,” junior Isabelle Gavin said. “I feel like I get to be a part of something so much bigger than myself and even my class. We have the honor of making an initial name for this group, and we get to leave it behind as a sort of legacy.”

The SLC is competing on February 4 at the Cowtown Classic Show Choir Competition in Fort Worth, and on February 25 at the Lone Star Show Choir Invitational in Keller.
