Homecoming proposals

The sentimental, the funny, and just the plain extravagant

October 15, 2015

As we approach cold weather and college application due dates, there’s always that one thing to look forward to: homecoming. This event fills the halls with chatter of dresses, mums, and proposals, dominating class conversations. With homecoming weekend right around the corner, let’s take a look at some of the most popular proposals posted on social media.

Sebastian Stettler and Devin Zavasky

Sebastian Stettler: “I was really looking for a special and memorable way to do it. I picked one thing that is really important to her- Twenty One Pilots. Since her friends are also really important to her also, I combined them both for the proposal. They helped me pull this whole thing together.”

Devin Zavasky: “I was at Sonic with a friend after school and she said to follow her. In two separate cars, I followed her to my house. When I got there, there were so many cars in my cul de sac. She got out of her car and sprinted to my backyard- I was really confused. When I went inside my house, my parents were just staring at me. Then, my doorbell rang. Somehow, everyone got from my backyard to front yard and they were just lined up. They had my favorite song playing when I walked out. He knows that Twenty One Pilots is important to me, and so are my friends. They helped him put this whole thing together.”

Jason Small and Lily Mesenbrink

Jason Small: “My sister and I were looking at different proposals and we saw one that was like this, but we decided to make it more extravagant. My mom bought a huge box from Costco and wrapped it in this really vibrant, polka-dotted wrapping paper. We assembled it on her front porch, and then I got underneath it. I was in there for a couple minutes, but then she came out. It was really great!”

Abraham Kadir and Kyra Williams

Abraham Kadir: “My friend told me about the minion idea, and I thought that ‘a minion reasons’ was kind of catchy! I had a poster and got her a minion stuffed animal and a bouquet of yellow flowers. Not to mention that I also wore minion glasses when I asked her. I thought it would be a nice touch to the whole proposal.”

Will Priakos and Pipa Munns

Will Priakos: “My inspiration for the proposal was that Pipa told me I had to propose in flashy way or she’d say no, so I decided to combine the fact my birthday is on homecoming and flashy supplies to ask her! The way it happened was I had too much stuff to carry for just me, flowers, the sign, a birthday muffin, and a crown, so I had to pick up a friend to help me. After I picked him up, we ran to her front door and surprised her! Then I gave her all the gifts and we obviously had an impromptu photo shoot for it!”

Matt Landers and Sarah Elieson

Matt Landers: “My inspiration was obviously Sarah Elieson. Obviously, I just wanted to make her happy, you know? It looked good as the final product, but thirty minutes before that I was almost in tears, sweating profusely, freaking out, because the signs flew off my car. But once it got there, it was nice. She was smiling, so I was happy.”

Sarah Elieson: “Walk the Moon is my favorite band and Matt knew I really wanted to go to their concert, so he decided to tie it into the homecoming proposal. He asked me by giving me concert tickets!”

Cassidy Chaplowe and Daniel Yousef

Cassidy Chaplowe: “I made a Dragon Ball Z poster, got him Dragon Balls, and set up some candles. When it was all finished, he came upstairs to my room. I was just sitting there and I asked him!”

Alex Simpson and Carley Christensen

Alex Simpson: I asked some of her friends about what kind of stuff she liked,  and one of them said horses. We were trying to come up with ideas using a horse and then we came up with an idea. The plan was for her to meet up with one of her friends to do some horse riding at a local place in Keller. When she arrived, I was waiting there for her with the horse, Rita, and red roses and a sign that read: ‘Will you ride with me to HC?’. There were two checkboxes one saying ‘yay’ or ‘neigh’ and she chose ‘yay’. It was a really cool night.”

Davis Payne and Chloe Dwyer

Davis Payne: “She’s always liked dogs. They are her favorite animal, so I thought I’d include her pet in the proposal. She was coming home from work and I told her best friend to put the collar on the dog. When she came home, I was there.”

Julia Wooldridge and Niven Raj

Julia Wooldridge: “We were at church and then, all of a sudden, my boyfriend goes over to me. He takes out his phone and says, ‘Oh shoot. I need to help my best friend with something.’ So, he left church. I got a text later that read ‘Text me when you’re almost home. We’ll grab dinner. I’ll meet up with you at your house.’ When I arrived at my house, I saw a bunch of trucks and Jeeps and all the headlights were pointed at the center of the street! I looked over, and his best friends and him all had their chests painted. He gave me 50 roses.”

Jessica Bowman and Reagan Rainwater

Jessica: “A few of my friends and I were at Reagan’s lake house and were all on his boat taking turns surfing and wakeboarding. It was his turn to wakeboard and my friend, Cami, asked me to come sit with her and watch. He jumped the wake and honestly, because he is such a great wakeboarder, I didn’t notice it the first time because I was watching his cool tricks instead of the board! But then my friend told me to look under the board… He jumped the whole wake again and I saw the big letters “HC JBO” on the bottom of the board and we all clapped while I gave him a thumbs up for a clear YES from the boat. It was so awesome! After that, we took pictures and just had fun hanging out at the lake for the rest of the weekend! It was the coolest and most unique homecoming invitation ever!”
